Ways to start a supplier's balance
| Way | Where | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Opening amount on the supplier | Supplier > the Opening information section | You only know the total you owe |
| Customer / Supplier consolidate | The screen of that name under Opening Entries | You enter one opening total for each party in one list |
| Customer/Supplier Voucher Wise Opening, the Purchase Opening tab | Opening Entries › Customer/Supplier | You have the old unpaid bills and want each on the books with its own date and due date |
The opening amount
On the supplier, fill Opening amount and Opening amount type: credit means you owe the supplier, debit means the supplier owes you. The amount is booked on the opening entry date, the day before the active fiscal year starts (The fiscal year). It needs an active numbering series for opening balances; without one the supplier is not saved (Document numbering for sales).
Voucher-wise purchase opening
Open Customer/Supplier Voucher Wise Opening, choose the Purchase Opening tab and add one line for each unpaid supplier bill: the Party, Bill date, Due date, Agent and Amount. Each line gets its own Voucher no from the opening series.
The other tabs of the same screen take Sales Opening (Customers' opening balances), Cash/Bank Opening (an opening cheque, with Cheque no, Cheque date and Amount type), Credit note Opening and Debit note Opening.
If the screen cannot give the bill a number it says "Please set document number for sales invoice wise opening." The wording names sales, but the same message appears on the purchase opening: add the opening series for purchases (Document numbering for sales).
