What it shows

Open Stock ledger details (menu Inventory Reports › Stock Ledger Detail, usual label). It is the stock card of a product: each line is one entry with its date, the kind of document, the document number, the party (customer or supplier), the quantity in or out, the value, the rate and the balance.

Reading a line

  • The first line of a product is its Opening (the balance before the From date).
  • Each following line is a document: an invoice, a purchase, a transfer, an adjustment, a production. The kind of document tells you where to look (Which documents move stock, and how).
  • In and Out show the quantity; the value and rate show what it was worth. The balance runs down the page.

The last balance should equal the Stock summary for the same date, warehouse and branch (Stock summary).

Common questions

The value of a sale line looks wrong.

Tick Stock Re-calculation and run it again. The cost of a sale is only worked out when values are brought up to date (How stock is valued and what a sale costs).

A document is missing from the ledger.

It may not have written stock: a goods received note or purchase invoice waiting for approval, a production journal not yet approved, or an order. See Which documents move stock, and how.

The report asks for a customer.

Customer is optional. Leave it empty for all movements.
