What it shows
Open Profitability Report (sales reports). Choose the From date and the filters (Customer, Product/Service name, Product Group, Warehouse), and Report group by. For each product, category or warehouse the report shows:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Qty | The quantity sold, less returns |
| Net amount | What the customers were charged, less returns |
| Stock value | The cost of those goods, first in, first out (How stock is valued and what a sale costs) |
| Profit | Net amount less Stock value |
| Profit mark up | Profit as a percentage of cost |
| Profit mark down | Profit as a percentage of sales (the margin) |
It reads the invoices, delivery notes and returns, so an invoice made from delivery notes is counted once.
How to read it
- A product whose Profit looks wrong (nothing at all, or far too much) may have sold more from a warehouse than ever came into it: the extra had no cost to take. Enter the missing purchase or opening in that warehouse and open the report again (Negative stock: where Penahak checks it).
- A Stock value of 0 means the goods came in with no value (an opening or an adjustment at rate 0).
- The cost is the first-in-first-out cost, not the product's Buy rate (Buy rate, sales rate and stock rate).
Common questions
Profit is different from the profit and loss.
The profit and loss works from opening stock, purchases and closing stock for the whole business, and includes expenses. This report is gross profit by product from the sales (Closing stock in the profit and loss, the balance sheet and the year end).
A returned invoice reduces the profit?
Yes: a sales return takes its quantity, amount and cost off the totals.
