Send stock to another branch

Moving stock to another branch takes two documents: Branch Stock Out at the sending branch, and later Branch Stock IN at the receiving branch. Between the two the goods are in neither branch's stock. No ledger entry is made.

Two steps, two branches

A transfer between warehouses of one branch is one document (Move stock between warehouses with a stock transfer). Moving stock between branches is two, one in each branch:

StepWhoTransfer typeStock
1. SendThe sending branchBranch Stock OutGoods go out of the From warehouse
2. ReceiveThe receiving branchBranch Stock INGoods come in to a To warehouse of the receiving branch

Until step 2 the goods are in neither branch's stock: the sender's balance has already gone down, the receiver's has not yet gone up. This is the time the goods are on the road.

Neither step makes a ledger entry: there is no account between the branches for the goods.

Send: Branch Stock Out

  1. Choose Add and the type Branch Stock Out
    Who
Store keeper of the sending branch
    Where
    Stock Transfer > Add
    What changes
The form asks for the From warehouse, the branch in Transferred to, and the lines.
  2. Add the lines and save
    What changes
Product, Qty, Rate as for any transfer. There is no To warehouse: the receiving branch chooses it. The goods leave the From warehouse.
    Needs
The quantity cannot be more than the warehouse holds ("Insufficient stock balance").

Receive: Branch Stock IN

  1. Choose Add and the type Branch Stock IN
    Who
Store keeper of the receiving branch
    Where
    Stock Transfer > Add
    What changes
The form shows Transferred from and Transfer no.
  2. Find the transfer
    What changes
Choose the sending branch in Transferred from and the Transfer no of its Branch Stock Out from the list of transfers not yet received. The lines come in.
  3. Choose the To warehouse of each line and save
    What changes
Every line needs a warehouse: "You have to select a store warehouse to which you are going to transfer item." / "Choose the stock warehouse for receipt". The goods come in to your branch.

After the receipt, the Branch Stock Out leaves the list of transfers to receive, and its Edit and Delete are switched off, because the goods have been received (Edit, delete and approve a transfer or an adjustment).

Value

The goods leave at their cost and come in at the rate on the document, as in a transfer between warehouses (Move stock between warehouses with a stock transfer, How stock is valued and what a sale costs). The receiving branch's stock layer starts at that rate.

Common questions

The goods left but are not in the other branch.

The receipt has not been made. The receiving branch makes a Branch Stock IN for that Transfer no.

The Branch Stock Out is not offered when I receive.

It has already been received, or you chose the wrong sending branch in Transferred from.

I sent the wrong quantity.

Edit the Branch Stock Out while it has not been received. After the receipt, correct with a Stock adjustment in each branch (Adjust stock: counts, damage, expiry and write-offs).
