What it shows

Open Stock summary (menu Inventory Reports › Stock Ledger Summary, usual label). Choose the Report type:

Report typeColumns
With out value (summary)Opening QTY, In QTY, Out QTY, Balance QTY, and the same four in the alternate unit
With value (summary)The same, plus Opening value, In value, Out value, Rate and Balance value
Stock valuation (summary)The balance and its worth on one date: Balance QTY, Rate and Balance value (Stock valuation: what your stock is worth)

The Rate is the average cost of what is left: the balance value divided by the balance quantity.

By default the report runs from the first day of the fiscal year to today, for your branch. Opening is the balance before the From date; In and Out are the movements inside the dates; Balance is opening plus in less out.

The filter bar narrows by From date, Product, Product category, Project/Business Unit, Product stage, Product SKU, Warehouse, Batch no, Manufacturing date and Expiry date, and by Branch. Tick Include batch data to see each batch with its dates and its own quantity and value (Batch, expiry date and serial number tracking).

What it leaves out

Common questions

The balance is not what I counted.

Count against this report with the right date and warehouse, then correct the difference with an adjustment (Count the stock and correct the differences).

Why is the report slow?

It works out the cost of every sale for every product first. A large store with years of sales takes longer.

A product is missing.

It is a service, it has never had a stock entry, or a filter (warehouse, category, dates, branch) leaves it out.
