- Orders to make
Open Production Order and look at the Approved orders. The journal's order list offers only the orders with quantity still to produce. Check the raw material balances for them in Stock summary (Production order, Stock summary).
- New recipe or order
A new product needs a Bill of material; approve it, then make the Production order and approve that (Bill of material, Production order).
- Record the journal
Make the Production journal from the order: the Production QTY, the Machine / Plant, the raw materials and the by-products. Save it. Stock has not moved yet (Production journal: record production and approve it).
- Quality check
Open the journal and Approve: enter the Approved QTY; the rejected quantity is worked out. Now the raw materials go out and the finished goods come in (Production journal: record production and approve it, What production changes in stock and in the books).
- A journal is refused
"Raw material stock is not sufficient": receive or transfer the raw material first. "Raw material stock with zero cost value not allowed": the raw material has no cost (When stock, products or production go wrong).
- Rejected goods you keep
Bring them back into stock with a Stock adjustment if they are to be sold or reworked (Adjust stock: counts, damage, expiry and write-offs).
- Unapproved journals
Look in the Production Journal list for journals whose Status is not approved: their goods are not in stock (Production journal: record production and approve it).
- Costing
The Produced goods costing details report for the month, with the accountant (Production reports).
Before you start
- Each raw material has a cost. A raw material with no cost is refused unless your company allows zero-cost raw material (Set up production).
- Serial numbers or batch details are ready for the raw materials and finished goods that are tracked (Batch, expiry date and serial number tracking).
- You know which Machine / Plant each run uses: a journal cannot be saved without one (Production journal: record production and approve it).
- An order does not stop you producing more than it asked for. Before a new journal, filter the Production Journal list by the order number to see what was already made (Production order).
End of the day
- Every journal of the day is approved, or you know why not: until then its raw materials have not left and its finished goods are not in stock (Production journal: record production and approve it).
- The Approved QTY is only what passed the check. The rejected rest never enters stock and its share of the cost is lost from the stock value (What production changes in stock and in the books).
- In this release anyone who can open a journal can approve it. Look at the activity of the day's journals to see who approved each one (Production journal: record production and approve it).
