What it shows
Open Stock Analysis (menu Inventory Reports › Stock Analysis, usual label). Choose the From date, the Branch, and Report group by: Product, Product Group or Product Group/SubGroup. For each product you see, in quantity and in value:
| Block | Columns |
|---|---|
| Opening | Opening QTY, Opening value |
| Purchases | Purchase QTY, Purchase Value, GRN QTY, GRN value (goods received not yet invoiced), Purchase return QTY, Purchase return value, Net purchase QTY, Net purchase value |
| Production in | Production in QTY, Production in-value |
| Adjustments in | Stock in QTY, Stock in value |
| Total in | Total in QTY, Total in value |
| Sales | Sales QTY, Sales Value, GDN QTY, GDN value (delivered not yet invoiced), Sales return QTY, Sales return value, Net sales QTY, Net sales value |
| Production out and adjustments out | Production out QTY, Production out-value, Stock out QTY, Stock out value |
| Closing | Closing stock QTY, Closing stock value |
A purchase invoice made from goods received notes counts under Purchase, not under GRN; a sales invoice made from delivery notes counts under Sales, not under GDN.
What to know before you rely on it
- Opening counts only the opening stock entered with Product Opening (Opening stock). It is not the balance carried from the day before the From date. The report is meant for a period starting at the start of the fiscal year; for a mid-year opening use Stock summary.
- Closing is the net of everything the filter includes. With a From date after the start of the year it does not equal the stock on hand: use Stock summary for that.
- Transfers between warehouses and branches are left out, and so are locked products and services.
- The values are those of the last time the cost of sales was worked out. Open Stock summary first for fresh values (How stock is valued and what a sale costs).
Common questions
The closing is not what the shelf holds.
The report does not carry stock across years. Start from the first day of the fiscal year, or use Stock summary.
A product's sales cost looks old.
The values were not brought up to date. Open Stock summary and run this report again.
Transfers are not in the analysis.
Correct: they move goods between warehouses and do not change the total. A branch stock out that has not been received yet is the exception: its goods are missing from the closing until the other branch receives them (Send stock to another branch).
A product is missing.
Locked products and services are left out of this report. Stock summary shows locked products.
Is Sales Value what we sold for, or what the goods cost?
What you sold for: the amount on the invoice lines. Total out value and Closing stock value are at cost. So Sales Value less a cost column is not the profit; for profit by product use the Profitability Report (Profitability Report: sales against cost).
