|---|---|---|
| Rs 2,000 | Rs 1,500 by card, the rest in cash | Bank/Wallet amount 1,500, Cash 500 |
| Rs 2,000 | A gift card with Rs 800 left, the rest in cash | Gift card amount 800, Cash 1,200 |
| Rs 2,000 | 600 in loyalty points, 950 by wallet, the rest in cash | Loyalty discount 600 (lowers the total to 1,400), Bank/Wallet amount 950, Cash 450 |
Rules to remember:
- One bank or wallet line per bill. A customer who pays by two different cards or wallets needs two bills, or one of the payments in cash.
- Change comes from cash only. A bank, wallet or gift card amount cannot be more than what is owed.
- A gift card pays at most its balance and at most the total.
- Loyalty points lower the total itself (Spend points on a bill: the loyalty adjustment policy).
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Invoice and IRD | One bill for the whole total, whatever the methods |
| Cash drawer | Only the cash line, less the change, counts toward the hand over |
| Accounting | A moment later: a receipt for the cash, a receipt for the bank or wallet, the gift card account for the gift card part (When the payments reach the books) |
| Loyalty | Points spent lower the bill itself; they are not a payment line |
Common questions
The customer wants to pay with two different cards.
The till takes one bank or wallet line per bill. Take one card for part and cash for the rest, or make two bills.
I typed the bank amount and the cash changed by itself.
That is how it works: Cash always shows what is left after the bank and gift card lines. Set the bank and gift card amounts first, then the cash the customer hands over.
Can a card payment give change?
No. Change comes from cash only; a bank, wallet or gift card amount cannot be more than what is owed.
Does a split bill make two invoices?
No. It is one bill and one invoice for the whole total. Only the payments are separate, one for each method.
A customer wants to pay part in points. Is that a payment line?
No. Points lower the Total itself before the other methods are worked out (Spend points on a bill: the loyalty adjustment policy).
A customer pays with a gift card and the card does not cover the bill.
A gift card pays at most its balance. Take the rest with Cash or Bank/Wallet Payment (Sell a gift card and pay with one).
