Give a till its float
The float is the money in the drawer before the first sale. A supervisor enters it once a day for each till.
- Open Petty cash
- Press Add petty cash
- Count the money
- Select the terminals and save
If you leave a row unticked that already has an amount, the window asks you to type the number of such rows before it saves: "Some of records have not been selected. Would you like to update the petty cash data for these terminals?". Those rows are removed if their float has not been accepted yet.
What the cashier sees
When the cashier opens POS Sales, the cash page says "You've received petty cash amount Rs. ..." and asks them to count and press Accept (Open the till and accept the cash). After that the float is theirs, and it is part of what they hand over at the end (Hand over the cash at the end).
- A float can be changed or removed until it is accepted. After the cashier accepts, it can no longer be changed.
- One float per till per day.
- The Petty cash list shows each float with a button for Handover cash amount (Sales information): the cash sales of that till on that day, and a button to print them.
Common questions
The cashier already accepted and the float was wrong.
It cannot be changed. Count the drawer at the hand over: the difference shows as excess or deficit (Hand over the cash at the end).
Is petty cash compulsory?
No. A till with no float opens with Rs. 0.
Can I enter the float for tomorrow?
No. The date is always today.
Where does the float show at the end of the day?
In the cashier's hand over, as part of the Initial amount and so of the Closing amount the drawer should hold (Hand over the cash at the end).
Can a second cashier have a float on the same terminal on the same day?
No. There is one float per terminal per day. When the shift changes, hand over with Is transfer to the person who takes over the till (they must be on the Handover to list); they accept it when they open the till (Hand over the cash at the end).
