Loyalty policy: how customers earn points

A policy says how many points a customer earns for each amount spent, between two dates. Points are earned on the whole bill, only for a named customer, and only when the shop also has a spending policy running.

On this page

Set the rule

  1. Open the screen
    Who
    Supervisor or accountant
    Where
Loyalty > Collection Policy (screen Loyalty collection policy, tab Loyalty collection policy)
    What changes
The list shows the policies of the shop.
  2. Add a policy
    Where
    Add
    What changes
Fill Description, Start date, End date, Loyalty point, Equivalent amount and Minimum sales amount. A note on the form gives an example: loyalty point 10 and equivalent amount 100 give 10 points for every Rs 100 of sales.
  3. Save
    Where
    Save
    What changes
"Loyalty policy saved successfully". The policy applies from its start date to its end date, if it is Active.
  • Loyalty point and Equivalent amount together are the rate: points earned = the bill's Total x loyalty point / equivalent amount.
  • Minimum sales amount: a bill must be above this total to earn any points.
  • Only one policy can run on a date: a new policy whose start or end date falls inside another policy's dates is refused.
  • The End date cannot be before the Start date.

What the till needs before points are earned

All of these, otherwise the bill earns 0 points:

  1. Apply loyalty is on in Configuration, and Loyalty discount adjustment is chosen (Configuration settings the till uses).
  2. A customer is chosen on the bill (Walk-in, named and new customers). A walk-in earns nothing.
  3. A collection policy is running today.
  4. A spending policy (the Loyalty adjustment policy) is also running today (Spend points on a bill: the loyalty adjustment policy). The till treats loyalty as switched on only when it finds one.

Points are earned on the whole bill total, however the customer pays. They show on the customer's balance after the bill is saved.

Product mapping

Loyalty > Product Mapping lists products against a policy: choose the policy, a product group, tick the products and Save. In this release the till does not use it: points are earned on the whole bill, mapped or not.

Common questions

The customer bought but earned no points.

Check the four conditions above. The most often missed: no spending policy is running today, or the bill was a walk-in.

Can two policies run at once?

No. The dates of two policies cannot overlap.

Do returns take points back?

Yes, the points earned on the returned amount (Sales return: take goods back).

Does the customer earn points on a bill they pay with points?

Yes, on the new Total, after the points they spent have lowered it (Spend points on a bill: the loyalty adjustment policy).

Are points rounded to whole points?

No. The points are kept to two decimals: a 1,375 bill under the policy above earns 137.5.

Do the product mapping and Is product level limit which products earn points?

Not in this release. Points are earned on the whole bill, mapped or not.
