Open the till and accept the cash

Before the first bill the screen checks the terminal, the shop's settings and the cash. It stops with a plain message when one is missing and says what to set.

What happens when you open POS Sales

Open POS Sales on the till computer. The screen runs three checks before it shows the till. Each stops the screen with a message, so nothing can be sold on a till that is not ready.

  1. The terminal
    Who
    Cashier
    Where
    POS Sales
    What changes
The screen asks the Penahak POS desktop app which terminal this computer is. If the app has no terminal saved, it shows "Terminal has not been set yet. Please contact your supervisor." If the app cannot be reached it shows the same page and the message "Could not access terminal agent."
  2. The shop's settings
    Where
    POS Sales
    What changes
When something the till needs is missing, the page List of items need to set in configuration page lists each missing item. Nothing can be sold until the list is empty (Set up a shop for the retail POS: checklist).
  3. The cash
    Where
POS Sales > the cash page
    What changes
You see "You've received petty cash amount Rs. ..." and, when a colleague handed cash over to you, "and handed over cash amount Rs. ... by ...", then "For your counter. Please verify in your respective counter." Count what is in the drawer and press Accept.

The same three checks run on Sales Return and Sales Replacement. Once you have accepted, the other screens open at once.

If the cash page asks for yesterday's hand over

The page says "Please hand over the previous day's cash." and the button is Cash handover instead of Accept. Someone who took responsibility for this terminal on an earlier day did not hand the cash over. Press Cash handover, finish that hand over (Hand over the cash at the end), then open POS Sales again.

The settings list

The page lists what is missing, one line each. Your administrator or accountant sets them. The till does not check the fiscal year or its IRD name: keep an active year with its IRD name anyway (IRD-ready invoicing at the till).

Common questions

The cash page does not appear, the till opens at once.

You already accepted today on this terminal, or nobody has to: the page shows only when your user has no open responsibility.

The cash page shows Rs. 0.

No petty cash was entered for this terminal today and nobody handed cash over to you. Count the drawer anyway and tell your supervisor.

Why must I accept the cash?

So every note in the drawer has a person: the hand over at the end compares what the till sold with what is counted (Hand over the cash at the end).

Does pressing Accept put anything in the books?

No. Accept only opens your responsibility for the terminal's cash. The count you make is not recorded; the hand over at the end compares what the till sold with what you count then.

I accepted this morning. Do I accept again on Sales Return?

No. The same three checks run on Sales Return and Sales Replacement, but once you have accepted the other screens open at once.

The page lists a missing item. Can I sell anyway?

No. Nothing can be sold until the list is empty. Your administrator or accountant sets each missing item (the table above says where); then sign in again so your till reads the new setting.
