Discounts and adjustments on the bill

Discounts come from three places: a scheme set up by the shop, the line's Discount link when the company allows it, and a bill adjustment whose rate is editable. Each reduces the line or the total before VAT is added.

A line's discount is taken off the line's Amount to give its Net amount. Bill adjustments (a bill discount, VAT) are worked out on the sum of the net amounts in the order the company set, and shown under Sub total (VAT, rounding and the kind of invoice).

Use another dated rate

The Rate link of a line opens Datewise rate details: the product's rates by the date each starts (Rate Applicable from date, Buy rate, Sales rate, MRP). Double-click a row and that Sales rate becomes the line's rate. Use it when a customer holds an old price (a bill that must honour a rate in force on an earlier date).

Questions customers ask

Does a discount need a manager's approval?

No. The Discount link (when the company switches it on) and the Rate link can be used by any cashier, and neither asks for a reason. Your supervisor checks the day's bills (A day as the supervisor or shop manager).

The line already shows a discount and nobody typed it.

The product is in a running scheme (Schemes: running discounts on products).

Is the loyalty discount a payment?

No. It lowers the bill itself, so the VAT follows the lower total (Spend points on a bill: the loyalty adjustment policy).

Where do I see a discount on the screen?

A line discount shows on its line (Discount and Net amount). A bill discount shows in the totals under Sub total (The POS Sales screen).
