What each guest pays

Every split adds up exactly to the bill's TOTAL; the paisa left over by rounding goes on the last guest.

  • Split by Items: each guest pays their dishes, plus their share of the bill's charges and discounts (service charge, bill discount, round-off) in proportion to their dishes, plus the VAT of their own dishes that carry VAT. A guest who had only dishes without VAT pays no VAT. Under each guest's share the screen shows items X + charges Y + VAT Z. A guest whose dishes were all comped pays nothing.
  • Split Equally: the total in equal shares to the paisa: three guests of 1000 pay 333.33, 333.33 and 333.34.
  • Custom Amounts: you type the shares; they must add up to the total to the paisa before you can post.

The shares come from the same charges as the invoice, so the payments always clear it. A bill whose payments do not cover its total is refused: The payments (Rs. X) do not cover the bill total (Rs. Y). Take the remaining Rs. Z, or make it a due sale.

A tip on a split bill

A tip is not part of the bill, so it is not in the guests' shares: the shares add up to the bill's TOTAL, and the tip is paid on top. Type it in Tip (not part of the invoice) at the top of the Split tab (it is the same tip as on the Bill tab). With Split Equally and Split by Items the tip is taken with the method you press; with Custom Amounts choose who pays it in Tip paid by (its method is that guest's). To collect (bill + tip) shows the whole amount. The tip is recorded in Tips payable, not in sales (Bill the table and take payment).

Common questions

Can each guest get their own invoice?

No. One invoice for the check; the payments are separate.

The amounts do not add up.

Split Equally and Split by Items always add up to the total. On Custom Amounts the screen shows Total: Rs. X (Grand: Rs. Y) until they match to the paisa.

Why does one guest pay a paisa more?

The total does not divide exactly; the paisa left over goes on the last guest.

A guest wants to pay by card and another by cash.

Use Custom Amounts, or Split Pay on the Bill tab.

Why does guest 2 pay VAT on less than the whole of their share?

VAT is worked out on the dishes that carry VAT only. Guest 2's water carries none, so their VAT is on the Fried Rice and its share of the service charge.
