VAT, service charge, discount and round-off
The Restaurant POS does not have its own tax rates. The lines under the subtotal of a bill are the sales bill terms of Accounting (Accounting › Bill Terms), the same ones the retail till uses:
| Kind of term | Shows on the bill as |
|---|---|
| A term that adds and is not VAT | Service charge (or any extra charge) |
| The VAT term | VAT, worked out on the dishes that carry VAT |
| A term that subtracts | Discount: the Discount tab changes its rate for one bill |
| A round-off term | Round-off: the bill rounds up, down or to the nearest rupee, as the term says |
Every active term applies to every bill, in the order of its display number. Make a term inactive when the restaurant does not use it.
Does the bill add VAT?
That depends on the company:
- A company with IRD switched on: VAT is worked out on every bill and shown as its own line.
- A company without IRD: the dish's price is used as it is, VAT included, and no VAT line is added, unless the company switches on Auto VAT calculation on POS Restaurant in Accounting's configuration (shown for restaurants).
Bill numbers
Each bill takes the next number of the branch's sales bill numbering that is valid for today. A numbering series has a start and an end date: when the year changes, the new series must exist or the bill is refused with:
Sales Document Number not configured. Go to Accounting → Configuration to set up the Sales Bill document number series.
A return needs the branch's sales return numbering in the same way: Sales Return Document Number not configured. Go to Accounting → Configuration to set up the Sales Return document number series.
Common questions
The bill shows no VAT.
The company has no IRD and Auto VAT calculation on POS Restaurant is off, or the VAT term is inactive, or the dish does not carry VAT.
A new fiscal year started and every bill is refused.
Add the new sales bill numbering series in Accounting, and the sales return and receipt series too.
The service charge is on every bill. Can I remove it for one table?
Not on the screen. Switch the term off in Accounting, or give the guest a discount on the Discount tab.
The Discount tab does nothing. Why?
It changes the rate of one bill discount term for that bill only. If Accounting has no such term (a term that subtracts, for the whole bill), there is nothing to change (Discounts and complimentary dishes).
