Users and roles
Staff access is managed in Administration › Users: open the user, give the user a branch, and assign a role that includes the restaurant permissions. A new role normally gets all of them; remove the ones a job does not need.
| Job | What the role needs |
|---|---|
| Waiter or captain | See the floor, open tables and take orders, see the menu |
| Cashier | Everything a waiter has, plus billing, the cash shift and returns |
| Kitchen | See the kitchen display and the pass |
| Manager | Everything, plus setup and reports |
The Staff screen of the Restaurant POS (Restaurant Staff, a card on the Restaurant POS start page) lists the branch's users with the role it guesses from their permissions: Manager, Supervisor, Cashier / Waiter, Waiter, Kitchen or No Restaurant Access. A supervisor shows a tag Can Authorize ("Can authorize voids and overrides"). The screen only shows; to change anyone, use Manage in Admin.
Waiters
When you open a table you pick a Waiter / Server. The list is the employees of the branch. The logged-in user is chosen by default when the user is also an employee. A new waiter is added as an employee: on Floor View, open Waiter List and press Add (the window is titled Add Waiter).
The secret key
A user can have a Secret Key in the user's own settings. When the restaurant's settings say a void needs authorization, the key is asked before a void (Void an item). Keep the key to yourself: it is a personal password for voids, not a manager's PIN.
Common questions
A waiter sees no tables.
The user has no branch, or the role lacks the floor view permission.
The menu is empty for a new waiter.
The role needs the permission to read the restaurant configuration (the menu is read with it).
Who can void an item?
Anyone who may update orders. With the void rule on, the person also needs a Secret Key to authorize it.
A cashier forgot their secret key. What now?
Ask the administrator to reset it in the user's settings. A manager can void the dish meanwhile, on their own login.
