Order, KOT and check
- The items you add on the New Order tab are a draft. Nothing reaches the kitchen yet.
- Send KOT / BOT turns the draft into an order and sends it. The order gets a KOT number (the restaurant's prefix, then the date and time it was sent). KOT is the kitchen order ticket; BOT is the same ticket for the bar.
- A check can have many orders: every round of drinks or extra dish is one more KOT on the same check.
- The Sent KOTs tab lists the orders of the check, each with its items and their status.
The tickets go to stations
Each item belongs to a kitchen station (Hot Kitchen, Cold Station, Bar). The station is decided by the dish's product group (see Kitchen stations and product group routing). One send prints one ticket per station, so the bar gets only the drinks and the kitchen only the food. A station whose name contains "bar" prints a BOT.
Item status
| Status | Means | Who changes it |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Sent, not started | Set when sent |
| Done | Ready at the pass | Kitchen: tap the item, or bump the ticket |
| Served | Picked up and served | Waiter or expo on the Pass Board |
| Voided | Cancelled before billing | Waiter: see Void an item |
When every dish of a ticket is Done, the order screen of that table (when it is open on a device) shows Food Ready for Pick-up with the KOT number and the dishes, and a short sound plays once for that ticket.
Common questions
Where is the KOT number?
On the ticket and on the Sent KOTs tab (shown as #number). The kitchen screen shows the time part only.
I forgot to add a dish. Do I start a new check?
No. Add it on the same table and send again. It becomes one more KOT on the same check.
Can I change an item after sending it?
You cannot edit a sent item. Void it (Void an item) and add it again.
Does the bill follow the KOTs?
No. The bill is one for the whole check: all three KOTs are on the same invoice when it is posted (From the bill to the invoice in Accounting).
Does sending the KOT take the goods out of stock?
No. Stock leaves when the bill is posted (What leaves stock when a bill is posted).
