The idea
Basic salary comes from one of two places, chosen in Payroll configuration under Salary based on (Payroll configuration):
- The designation setting: everyone with the designation gets the designation's salary. You keep that table here.
- The employee setting: each employee has their own basic salary on their Payroll details (An employee's payroll details).
The Designation salary table
Open Payroll setup and the Designation salary tab. Each row says what a designation pays from a pay period.
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Designation | The designation the row is for |
| Effective from | The pay period the row starts in. The row applies from the first day of that period |
| Basic salary | The monthly basic salary. Must be more than 0 |
| Max salary | The ceiling for basic plus grades. Must not be less than the basic salary, or empty for no ceiling |
| Max grade | Kept with the row for your records; the pay run does not limit grades by it |
| Grade amount | The amount added for each grade the employee has, and for each technical grade |
| Tech grade amount | Kept with the row; technical grades are paid at the Grade amount |
An employee's grades are entered on their Payroll details under Grade (Effective date, No of Grade, Technical grade) and add to the salary up to Max salary.
Change a salary
Do not edit the old row for a rise. Add a new row for the same designation with a later Effective from; Penahak closes the old row at that date, so earlier months keep their old pay. A new row cannot start earlier than the latest existing row of that designation: the screen refuses it.
