Occupancy, ADR and RevPAR

FigureHow it is worked out
OccupancyRooms sold ÷ rooms available. Out-of-order rooms are not available
ADR (average daily rate)Room revenue ÷ paying rooms sold
RevPAR (revenue per available room)Room revenue ÷ rooms available
  • Closed days (before the business date) use what was posted: the room charges of that night on the folios, net of room discounts and allowances. A discount on a room night lowers that night's room revenue, ADR and RevPAR.
  • From the business date on, nothing is posted yet: the figures are what is on the books (the price of each booked night).
  • Complimentary and house-use rooms count as sold, but are left out of ADR and RevPAR.

Daily flash gives one day's occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, revenue and movements, with month and year to date.

Revenue figures and the books

Hotel reports show the hotel's operational view (folio lines). The revenue in the books is booked when each folio is invoiced (normally at check-out), so a month's hotel revenue report and the sales ledger differ by the guests still in house. For month-end, post interim bills for in-house guests.

City ledger ageing

What companies owe, by age (0-30, 31-60, 61-90, over 90 days), read from Accounting: a company's payment entered in Accounting reduces it. See Company billing and the city ledger.
