The stay's limit
Every charge to a stay is checked against what the stay already owes. The limit comes from, in order: the stay's own limit, the guest's account limit, the company's limit, then the hotel's default. With none of these, there is no limit.
| What happens | Result |
|---|---|
| A charge keeps the stay within its limit | Posted |
| A charge takes the stay over its limit | A manager approves, or the guest pays first |
| A charge goes to a company or group folio by routing | The stay's limit does not apply to it |
| A credit (discount, payment) | Never refused |
No-post
Mark a stay No-post when nothing should be charged to it (for example a cash guest with no card on file): every charge to it then needs a manager's approval, from outlets, minibar, laundry or by hand.
Change the limit
Folio > More › Credit limit and no-post: Limit for this stay, No-post and the reason. Tightening (lowering the limit, setting no-post) is immediate. Loosening (raising or clearing the limit, lifting no-post) needs a manager unless your role may do it alone.
Credit watch
Folios › Credit watch lists the stays with a limit: those Over the limit, those Within 10% of it, and the No-post stays, with what each owes.
Common questions
The limit field will not accept 0.
A limit must be more than zero. Leave it empty to use the hotel's default, or mark the stay No-post if nothing may be charged to it.
A restaurant check is refused for a stay that is over its limit.
A charge to a stay over its limit, or to a No-post stay, needs a manager's approval, from the restaurant as well as from the front desk. Otherwise the guest pays the check at the table (Restaurant checks charged to a room or event).
Why is a charge to a company folio not stopped by the guest's limit?
A charge sent to a company or group folio by Billing routing does not count against the stay's limit. It is the company's account that is checked, when the company is billed at check-out (Company billing and the city ledger).
