What a hold does
| Area | Effect |
|---|---|
| Credit invoices and delivery notes | Blocked when saved ("The customer is on credit hold: <reason>"), even within the limit |
| Sales orders | Blocked when your company's order settings block over-limit orders; otherwise a warning |
| POS credit bills, recurring invoices | Blocked like invoices |
| Cash sales (cash book, cash selling customer, paid in full with the sale) | Not affected |
| A credit release | Still possible: an approved release for one sale lets it through |
| Hotel city ledger (Penahak Hospitality) | Billing the company at check-out needs a manager's approval |
| CRM | The customer shows On credit hold on Customers, Customer 360, the Credit Desk and the sales document panels; their health score loses 10 points |
Put on or lift a hold
Only credit approvers can do this.
- Put on hold
- Lift the hold
The hold drawer on Customer 360 says the same: "While the hold is on, every sale on credit to this customer is blocked and this reason is shown with the block. A sale paid in full still goes through; quotations, and orders unless your order settings block over-limit orders, only warn."
The dunning ladder recommends a hold, it never applies one
The fifth dunning stage is called Credit hold (91 days overdue). It opens a follow-up "Review for credit hold: overdue more than 90 days". It recommends a hold: nothing puts a customer on hold automatically, a person decides. See The dunning ladder and collection cases.
Common questions
Does a hold stop cash sales?
No. Cash sales (the cash book, a cash selling customer, or a sale paid in full with the sale) are not affected.
What reason must I give?
A reason of at least 5 characters, for example "cheque bounced". Sales staff see it when a sale is blocked.
