Attendance, leave and holidays

Shifts, the holiday calendar, and leave that can differ by department or gender.

Shifts and attendance

Define the shifts your business runs, assign employees to them, and attendance is measured against the shift rather than one company-wide standard. Attendance settings can be applied per employee, per department and per branch. The late-entry-by-month report groups lateness so patterns are visible, and the attendance-today view gives a manager an immediate picture of who is in.

The holiday calendar

Holidays are maintained per fiscal year, each with a name and a holiday type. Because the calendar is fiscal-year scoped, it has to be set up for each new year — do it before the year starts, not after someone queries a deduction.

Holidays can be scoped, which matters in practice: a festival observed by part of the workforce, or a holiday that applies to one branch and not another.

Leave

  • Leave types are configured with entitlement in days.
  • Leave can be scoped by department, branch and gender — the last is how maternity and paternity entitlements are handled.
  • Entitlements are held against the fiscal year.
  • Employees raise requests from self-service; requests route to their manager through the approval chain.
  • Approved leave updates the balance and appears in the team calendar.

Why this matters for payroll

Payroll runs off attendance and leave. Unapproved absence, unpaid leave and overtime all flow from these records into the pay run, so chase outstanding approvals before you start the run rather than during it.
