Registering a POS terminal

Why each counter is a registered terminal, and what that gives you.

Each till is registered as a terminal. It is not just a label — the terminal is what makes a sale, a shift and a cash variance attributable to a specific counter.

Registering a terminal

  1. Create the terminal against its branch.
  2. Set its display order so it appears sensibly in selection lists.
  3. On the machine itself, select the terminal at sign-in.
  4. Check the configuration summary the terminal reports before trading on it.

What the terminal gives you

  • Sales, returns and shifts are recorded against a named counter.
  • Cash variance can be analysed per terminal as well as per cashier — a persistent one-directional variance on one terminal usually means a process or hardware problem, not a person.
  • Receipt and ticket printing is mapped through the machine’s local print bridge.
  • Terminal-wise sales reporting becomes available.

Do not share one terminal record across several physical tills. It makes reconciliation and variance analysis meaningless, which is most of the reason the shift model exists.
