Setting up a fiscal year

Bikram Sambat fiscal years, the IRD format field, and the order they appear in.

Penahak runs on Bikram Sambat fiscal years. Each year is created with:

  • Fiscal year name — how it appears in selectors, e.g. 2082/83.
  • Start date and end date, both in Bikram Sambat.
  • IRD format — the fiscal year as the Inland Revenue Department expects it on statutory output.
  • Order — controls the sequence years appear in throughout the application.
  • Active — whether the year can be transacted in.

Before you transact

  1. Create the year.
  2. Enter opening ledger balances and opening stock — see Entering opening balances.
  3. Run the opening trial and reconcile it against your previous closing balance.
  4. Create the document numbering series for the new year.

Do not begin transacting until the opening trial agrees. Every later reconciliation is measured against it.

The business date

Operational modules work against a business date rather than the wall clock. Hospitality night audit closes the business date explicitly, which is what stops late entries drifting into a period you have already reported on.
